Hemming is forming an edge or border on or around an object. The overhanging edge of a metal roof panel is bent back against the underside of the panel and hemmed to seal it.
Step 1 – Grasp edge of metal roof panel
Grasp a small section of the newly bent part of the roof panel between the jaws of the seaming pliers and hold it firmly.
Step 2 – Hem a smooth seam
Open and close the seaming pliers whilst moving them along the edge of the roof panel to exert the pressure needed to form a smooth seam.
Step 3 – Finish hemming a smooth seam
When you have finished hemming a smooth seam on the edge of the metal roof panel, it should be sealed and watertight.
