Make sure the blade of the scraper is sharp. If it is not then it will need to be sharpened with a whetstone. A whetstone is a stone used to grind and hone the edges of tools.
Step 1 – Lubricate whetstone
First, spray and lubricate the whetstone with water.
Step 2 – Place blade
Place the scraper blade flat on the rough side of the whetstone, then place one hand on the handle and press down on the back of the blade with one or two fingers.
Step 3 – Push blade
Move the blade backwards and forwards against the whetstone. Give the blade around 10 strokes, then change to the opposite side of the blade and repeat.
Step 4 – Check sharpness
Lightly check the sharpness of the blade with the ball of your finger.
Step 5 – Use fine side
Once you are satisfied with the sharpness of the blade, turn the stone over to the finer side of grit.
Repeat the stroking action (step 3) with the blade on this side of the whetstone to hone the edges of the scraper blade.
Step 6 – Wipe blade
Wipe down the scraper blade with a damp cloth. It is now ready to use.
