Clamp meter jaws |
||||
A clamp meter allows current to be tested in wires and cables without having to come into contact with the supply, and without the instrument being inserted in series with the circuit.
The jaws are opened by pushing the trigger, which allows the tool to be used one-handed. |

The diameter of cable that the clamp can measure is variable depending of the clamp size. Each model will be capable of testing most standard household cables. A standard model clamp has a capacity of around 30mm (1 3/16″) which is suitable for most applications.
Clamp meters are better suited to higher amperes of current, which is not dependent on the size of the cable. |
